Dear friends and colleagues,

following the successful inaugural EFCC-UEMS meeting in Lisbon in 2010, the delightful city of Dubrovnik was chosen to host the second meeting with our Croatian colleagues as hosts; is therefore a pleasure to welcome you to the 2nd EFCC-UEMS Congress, a coming together of two European organizations with a common interest in promoting the profession of Laboratory Medicine and ensuring a forum to discuss the clinical and scientific developments in our specialty with our invited speakers, who are experts in their fields.

The significant developments in diagnosis of disease, monitoring of therapy and screening under consideration are juxtaposed to the ever increasing costs and demands for health care, these are challenges we all face. It is through meetings such as this that we gain the perspective of what is necessary and appropriate for patient care when we return to our laboratories fired with the enthusiasm imparted by the speakers and the stimulating conversations held with colleagues old and new.

Invitation from the President of UEMS

Dear Colleagues,

On behalf of the UEMS, I would like to welcome you to the 2nd European Joint Congress of EFCC and UEMS in collaboration with the Croatian Society of Medical Biochemistry; Laboratory Medicine at the Clinical Interface. As title implements the mayor focus of this congress is the link between clinic and laboratory.
The Congress will feature a multi-disciplinary scientific program, renowned guest speakers, an extensive three-day trade show, and an interesting social program in the lovely surroundings of Dubrovnik. The very valued structure of our last congress will be maintained with (a new?) focus on the interdisciplinary meeting for laboratory medicine, clinicians and GP’s translating diagnostics to patient care. Beyond classic plenary lectures and symposia, educational sessions are supplemented by interactive pro-contra sessions. We therefore cordially invite you to Dubrovnik to participate in this meeting. It is your contribution that will make this conference a great success!
The target participant group includes laboratory specialists, clinicians, residents, public, healthcare economists, healthcare funders and policy makers. This is a unique opportunity to update your skills and knowledge base and to network with medical laboratory professionals from a variety of disciplines. Welcome!

It is a great honor for Croatian Society of Medical Biochemists to host the 2nd EFCC-UEMS joint scientific congress of Laboratory Medicine at the Clinical Interface in Dubrovnik, Croatia in 2012. This event will take place together with the 7th Croatian Congress of Clinical Chemistry with the program designed to deliver a highly interactive and stimulating atmosphere.

In addition to science, Dubrovnik with its Old City, the UNESCO World Heritage Centre, as one of the most beautiful cities not only in Croatia, represents an excellent venue to gather different laboratory medicine experts giving them a great opportunity to exchange their knowledge and experience as well as acquire new ideas in the field, while also making new friends and enjoying the beauties of Dubrovnik.

We look forward to offer you a truly pleasant and unforgettable stay, but also to foster friendship and collegiality among the participants from all over Europe. In addition to the scientific program, a rich social program providing the frame for relaxation and cultural stimulation will be offered for attendees, families and friends.
